How to reach and engage an audience with your research: an introduction into public engagement and science communication
Content
Introductory theory of science communication and public engagement.
Workshop 1: card game Public Engagement
Workshop 2: Develop your own public engagement or science communication activity in four steps
Learning goals
- Participants are aware of (in)effective ways to communicate their research and why and when these are (in)effective
- Participants get an idea of the broad field of possibilities and forms of public engagement and science communication
- Participants get a feel of how it is to work within the limitations of reality when devising a public engagement or scicom activity
- Participants develop a plan for a possible activity around their own research, taking into account their own circumstances and talents
Preparation
- Take with you two examples of public engagement and/or scicom that inspired you
- Take with you one example of public engagement an/or scicom that you feel was unsuccesful or contraproductive.
