Content, learning goals, preparation

The focus of this meeting is twofold. In the morning, PhD students who are conducting interdisciplinary research and/or working with practitioners will get the opportunity to present their research and receive feedback during the discussions. If students would like to present during this meeting, please send a short abstract (250 words) of what you would like to present.

We are open to all sorts of presentations depending on students’ needs ranging from idea development to presenting complete papers. Given that this workshop is focused on bridging social and organizational psychology, students are encouraged (but not required to) present or discuss challenges specific to this experience (e.g., not knowing how to frame a certain paper or presentation, being unsure about where to submit a piece of work etc.).

In the afternoon, we will have a guest speaker who is conducting interdisciplinary research and/or working with practitioners. The guest speaker will talk about their experiences and challenges and there will be plenty of room for discussion.

Students who have attended the course in previous years are welcome to attend again as we would like to build a community where PhD students in different phases of their trajectory come together to discuss their experiences with interdisciplinary and practical research. The case studies discussed and the guest speaker will be different than the previous years.

Preliminary program

10:00 – 10.30                 Welcome with coffee and tea & introduction

10.30 – 11.30                 Presentations and feedback session by PhD candidates

12.30 – 13.30                 Lunch

13.30 – 16.00                 Presentation Guest speaker and interactive discussion and Q&A

The final program and preparation will be communicated to the participants before the meeting.

The goal of the workshop

  • Exchange experiences in interdisciplinary research and practical applications and get feedback from peers and guest researchers

Literature

There will be assigned reading if the guest speaker asks students to read something in preparation. This will be announced before the meeting to ensure that students have enough time to read the assigned material.

Depending on the nature of presentations, students may be asked to read other students’ materials (e.g., abstract or paper) in preparation.

If there are more PhDs interested in participating than available places, distribution will be based on seniority for this course. This means that we look at how long someone is a KLI member.
